Unfounded Assumptions
a few moments before i wrote this, i was at a little gathering with some friends. We were chatting and talking about all sorts of things when all of a sudden, an issue came up. Honestly, it was something i least likely expected–and to think it was qualified as a freakin’ rumor.
Rumor has it that stacy danika s. alcantara is childish. huh? one of my friends told me there was nothing wrong with that, and he went on to explain his rather shallow understanding saying that it’s okay to be childish because it means you’re childlike.
i beg to disagree. childish and childlike are absolutely two different things. They do not equate with each other, they are not synonyms, and thus are not interchangeable. when you talk about childishness, you talk about a person who is an immature individual, devoid of any thoughts pertaining to fulfilling one’s duties. you talk about a person being unable to think critically and being unable to disect an issue. you talk about a person who lives for the moment with all thoughts about tomorrow or the future inexistent. being child-like, on the otherhand pertains to being zealous, youthful, idealistic, and active at the same time. child-likeness is about keeping that little spark and optimism in you.
i don’t exactly know which of the two words those people have in mind to describe me. if it is the former, however, i believe they need to be more aware of status quo and the current norms at which we live in because naturally, i don’t see a child (as in the tantrum-throwing, wailing, potty-training child) reading TIME magazine 24/7. i’ve never seen a child who practices playing the violin at least two hours a day without having problems with his/her attention span. and i seriously haven’t seen a child who has a written at least 14 novels in a fraction of her lifetime.
it’s sad how some people just can’t get those simple things right, thus leading into miscommunication and betraying their ignorance such little things. whichever it may be, assuming but not conceding that it is the first word which they truly mean, i feel sorry for them. anyway, the university is offering courses for english plus both in the first and second semesters.
