Yikes! Oriental Negros
When Kuya Michael said Oriental Negros was a very difficult place to make tourism thrive, he wasn’t kidding.
Just a few days ago, my dad and I went around the province to distribute a few letters asking permission from some of the resorts if we could feature them. The trip was long but nonetheless fun and thanks to Rod Stewart, we didn’t have to suffer so much in silence.
Sure, there were resorts with nice friendly managers who said ‘Yes’ even before they could read the letter but hey, there were also the snooty, bossy, types who didn’t know who they were actually messing with.
“ I don’t need the media to make my resort known,” the fat monstrous squid smugly said. Perhaps she thought she was simply talking to a submissive kid. Big mistake. Honey, without the media, there’d be no way in the world that run-of-the-mill resort of yours would come to be known.
“ I’ll call you though, if ever I feel like it,” she added. Duh. Even if you’ll call me, I wouldn’t waste my precious time driving from Dumaguete to Dauin just to write about some place being run by ‘Dambuhalang Pusit’.
Then of course, there things much worse than creepy managers. And that’s basically a self-righteous regional director of the Department of Tourism.
Wild gray hair, corners of the mouth under the sole influence of gravity, furrowed brows—ah yes, the mark of a monster, indeed. No wonder there aren’t as many tourists in this part of the world. With a look that screams ‘Leviathan!’ who the hell would want to come?
I know I don’t want to come within ten meters from her ghastly shadow.
“ Don’t ambush him. You can interview him only when dinner ends…” and yadda, yadda, yadda…Sure. And like, when does dinner end? Oh puhleez, it’s not like I’m the type who jumps on my interviewees for the heck of it. I didn’t study in Silliman and work for different papers for nothing.
So there, peeps. If ever you plan to drop by Oriental Negros, beware of these oglops. I assure you, getting skewered by a sea urchin is way better than having to deal with these kinds of people.

Yeah right! There are some people out there who acts like that way. Anyways, I could be too proud to say that I’m from Oriental Negros not only because of the scenery all around, but also because of some people who are hospitable. Ayt?
